About

Pelvic Exercise 4 U strives to CREATE, INSPIRE, ASSIST, EDUCATE and EMPOWER

Pelvic Exercise 4U was born out of lock down, with less clinical work and more time to reflect as well as the shift to working from home. We are motivated by the findings from the Continence Foundation of Australia that women were developing pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence from inappropriate exercise regimes. In particular, the structure and anatomy of the abdominal core, where the pelvic floor muscles are the base, was not being taught true to the research findings.

Our mission is to present the correct information to women wanting to exercise at home to reduce the bother of pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, low back, and pelvic girdle pain and to rehabilitate from physical effects of pregnancy and delivery.

We treat women throughout all stages of their lives, with a specific focus on the Pelvic Floor, the Abdominal core cylinder and deep hip muscle strength, all with optimal functioning for everyday activities.

We encourage you to follow our Video lessons in each Module in the privacy and comfort of your own home, at a pace that meets your individual needs.

Join our easy to follow, demystified step by step approach, keeping in line with evidence-based and safe practice.

Gillian Smith

For the past twenty years Gillian has developed Women’s Health, Physio and Pilates clinics in the bayside suburbs of Melbourne.

Gillian has a special focus on the link that exists in women who suffer from bladder leakage and low back pain, both inseparable conditions. For over a decade Gillian has been using real-time ultrasound for assessment and client biofeedback rehabilitation. Many people are visual learners, seeing their muscles working on the screen and connecting to these muscles correctly brings about immediate positive outcomes. Gillian uses the real-time ultrasound for biofeedback on all muscle groups of the body with a specific focus on the pelvic floor, abdominal cylinder, hip, and scapula muscles.

Gillian has two postgraduate qualifications in Physiotherapy. In 1997 she spent a year studying Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. She refined her skills in assessing musculoskeletal conditions and developed advanced clinical reasoning skills to form a sound diagnosis and consequent treat plan unique to that client. In 2007 she undertook postgraduate training in Continence and Pelvic Floor Muscle Rehabilitation which taught her how to assess and rehabilitate issues associated with the bladder, bowel, and pelvic organs due to dysfunction with the pelvic floor muscles.

Gillian integrates clinical expertise with evidence-based research, in the assessment and management of movement disorders associated with Musculoskeletal and Women’s Health issues.

Gillian is passionate about Women’s Health and keenly continues to advance her knowledge in this field of study. She is a great advocate for lifelong learning. Gillian is also a mother and appreciates the challenges of work life balance and the significant effects that the female body experiences during pregnancy, birthing and beyond.
